The Home as a Safe Haven

Writer's picture: Dagmara GomezDagmara Gomez

Our home has to be a safe haven.

Because life outside of the home can be so stressful it is absolutely critical that the home remain a safe haven. For our partners and especially for our children.

Now as you step into my world, and begin to do the practices, you will notice that the stressful situations will happen less and less, but they will still happen.

We are humans, living a human existence, so naturally it will still happen.

But when it does, it is absolutely critical that the home remain a safe haven.

A place for us to return to.

That is where we regulate the nervous system.

That is where we experience love.

Everything starts with safety.

Even if you're doing a sexual abuse program or any kind of deeper inner work, it all starts with safety. People will not open up if they do not feel safe.

It’s the opposite of expansiveness and openness.

When we do not feel safe, we shut down, we contract.

In nature, labor will stop for an animal which experiences danger. That is how critical safety and the feeling of safety is.

I want us to understand that role and feel into that role and understand that that is our role: to create safety within the home.

Much love and aloha,

Dagmara
